# LinkedIn outreach by hand: a weekly process

A manual, platform-compliant weekly routine for LinkedIn outreach, which steps ColdMeetings covers, and a funnel example computed from stated counts.

LinkedIn can be a good place to start a conversation with a buyer, and it works best as a short, repeatable routine done by a person. This post lays out that routine, step by step, and shows how to keep count so you can tell whether it is working.

ColdMeetings does not run LinkedIn. It runs email: domains, mailboxes, lists, sequences, replies and meeting booking. The table below is explicit about where LinkedIn work stops and where an email sequence can pick up.

## Read the platform's rules first

LinkedIn's User Agreement lists what members agree not to do. Among the items: using bots or other unauthorized automated methods to access the service, send messages or add contacts, and using software or scripts to copy profiles and other data. This post describes none of that. Everything below is done by a person, in the open, one profile at a time.

LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies also say not to use the invitation feature to send promotional messages to people you do not know. A connection request is better spent on a specific reason to connect than on a pitch.

## The weekly routine, by hand

Block a fixed slot each week and run the same steps in the same order.

1. Pick the accounts: choose a short list of target companies from your own plan, not from a scrape.
2. Read before you write: look at the person's role, recent posts and what their company does, and note one real reason to reach out.
3. Send a short request with that reason and no pitch.
4. When someone accepts, send a brief message that asks one easy question about their work, not for a meeting.
5. Reply to answers the same day when you can, and move interested people to a call or an email thread they choose.
6. Log every touch and its outcome in a sheet or a CRM, so the counts below are real.

## Where LinkedIn work stops and email can start

Steps outside email stay with you. If a person agrees to continue by email, an email sequence can take over the follow-up.

Workflow steps for manual LinkedIn outreach and which ones ColdMeetings runs

| Step | What it needs | ColdMeetings runs it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Choose target accounts | Your own ideal customer profile and list | Lists can be imported and verified for email |
| Research the person | Time reading profiles and posts | No |
| Connection request and first message | A person on LinkedIn, one profile at a time | No |
| Move to email | A verified address and a reason to write | Yes, as a sequence step |
| Follow-up on email | A schedule and clear opt-out handling | Yes, sequences and unsubscribe handling |
| Handle replies and book a meeting | A shared inbox and a calendar | Yes, replies and meeting booking |
| Count the results | A log of sends, accepts, replies and meetings | Counts for email; LinkedIn counts stay in your own log |

## Keeping count: a funnel example

Here is a four-week log for a fictional rep at Marlow Cloud Backup. Example counts: 50 connection requests sent, 20 accepted, 8 replies to the first message, 3 meetings booked. These are not benchmarks.

The rep spends 5 hours a week for 4 weeks, valued at $60 an hour, so people time is $1,200. All three meetings were held.

Worked example from ratePct, replyRatePct, meetingBookedRatePct and costPerMeetingBreakdown. Counts are examples.

| Measure | How it is computed | Result |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Acceptance rate | Accepted divided by requests sent | 40% |
| Reply rate after acceptance | Replies divided by accepted | 40% |
| Meeting rate from replies | Meetings divided by replies | 37.5% |
| Cost per held meeting | People time divided by held meetings | $400 |

## Moving a conversation to email

When a person tells you email is fine, an email is a commercial message in the FTC's terms, and the FTC's CAN-SPAM guide says the law has no exception for business-to-business email. It asks for a valid physical postal address, a clear opt-out, and honoring an opt-out within 10 business days. Build those into the first email you send, not as an afterthought.

## Questions

### Does ColdMeetings automate LinkedIn?

No. ColdMeetings does not run LinkedIn. It runs email only.

### How many requests should I send a week?

There is no number we can cite. Start with a volume you can personalize by hand, then read your own acceptance and reply counts.
